The importance of getting a good night’s rest can’t be argued.  But when you have a lot on your mind, it’s sometimes difficult to find physical and mental sleep rejuvenation when your mind is racing.  Here are a  few practices that can help your mind gently unwind before bedtime so you can rest easier and wake up refreshed, ready for a new day!

  • Avoid caffeine (including chocolate) and alcohol in the later part of the day.
  • Don’t smoke. Nicotine disturbs sleep patterns.
  • Do not eat a large meal before bedtime.
  • Regularly exercise, early in the day.
  • Follow a regular bedtime routine and schedule.
  • Avoid daytime naps.
  • Only use your bed for sleeping or sexual activity.
  • Manage stress, depression, or anxiety.
  • Stay away from sleeping pills if possible.
